Training and expectations

A volunteer meeting

A volunteer meeting

Thank you for being here! Code Blue relies on our great community to help staff the shelter. The gift of your time and talents are greatly appreciated by those we serve and our staff.

To begin volunteering we ask that you complete the following steps:

  1. Read Volunteer Training
  2. Watch Training Video
  3. Sign up for a “new volunteer” time slot

The first time you volunteer you will be paired up with an experienced volunteer to learn the different tasks it requires to run the shelter. When you arrive for your first shift please see a shift supervisor to sign a copy of the Volunteer Waiver form found at the end of the Volunteer Handbook.

If you plan to work in the kitchen we ask that you complete this free, on-line food safety training course. Although creating a login is necessary to use the self-study, we don’t require volunteers to pass a test or pay a fee.  After registering, you will receive an email message with a link from which to access the course. The self-study should take about 60 to 90 minutes.

The following video (22 min) covers all the essentials for learning about expectations for volunteers.
